Star signs and other myths

If I hear “oh — that’s because mercury is in retrograde” one more time……

I swear I’m the only one who has no interest in astrology or how the moon and the stars are affecting my mind, my life, my work and my health.

Is there anyone else out there?! It’s driving me crazy!

I guess it makes it more difficult since I’m in what is called ‘heart centred’ work…and this is where everybody hangs out who knows all about my star sign and my future.

What if I asked them within 2 minutes (or less) what car they drive, how old they are, how much money they make, if they are married, have kids…if so how many and where in the birth-order are they themselves, what suburb they live in, if they are vegan, what religion are they…what political party.

All these are a source of judgement and therefore considered a subject to be broached when you are more familiar with them. It’s simply polite to allow people to speak unhindered by a judgement of any kind.

To be put into a box of some fantastical ideal according to what day I was born is just a waste of my time (and theirs). Even when I say I don’t believe in star signs it doesn’t stop them!

For some reason asking this question is totally acceptable behaviour.

It makes sense to me that I was born, not really sure what day or time to be honest. But according to astrology I am a cusp of Taurus and Gemini…no idea what that makes me but I’ve had several full page horoscopes given to me which are supposed to outline my life purpose and future.

I’ve have read them — but also couldn’t see the reason for reading them besides curiosity. What will I learn from these?

Will my life be different? Better? Will a bucketload of money fall my way and life suddenly becomes easy? What is the reason for knowing what star I was born under and then believing that someone will be able to give me a guide to the entire rest of my life according to sun, moon, rising suns, moons and stars…..

So often people introduce themselves as a particular astrology sign to explain why they behave as they do. Why can’t we all just accept that we, people, are fallible. We do silly things and have a lifetime of experiences that govern our actions on an often unconscious level.

I’ve even been approached with a request for my star sign so the person will be able to judge whether we will get along or not! What’s that about? We ultimately and unsurprisingly didn’t.

Humans have a history of being superstitious and believing in powers beyond our own that govern the earth, environment and ultimately our wellbeing. This is a copout — I consider myself solely responsible for my life. It hasn’t always been easy and at times it has been amazing. Being guided by someone else's opinions, beliefs, writings or experiences just hasn’t worked for me and yes I have tried several times.

Whereas seeking my own truth, exploring my own depths, travesties and joys has and is bringing me to a far more solid understanding.

I could be wrong — completely out of touch with reality — and if so, I will have to eat my words, become the bull-headed twin I was astrologically born to be and just suck it up. But — until then my confidence in being just a normal person, with many mistakes behind and before me, living life with on open mind and attempting to not be coerced into thinking someone else’s thoughts is where I’d rather be.
